Tic-tac-toe
Three in a row on a board of nine squares. Several rounds are played and whoever takes the most rounds wins; a different player opens each round.

The rules
How a round is won
Taking turns, each player marks a free square. The round goes to whoever first lines up three of their own marks in a row, a column or a diagonal. If all nine squares fill up without a line, the round is a draw and counts for nobody.
Why several rounds
Whoever opens has an advantage, and between two people who know what they are doing tic-tac-toe always ends in a draw. That is why several rounds are played with the first move changing hands: whoever took the most rounds wins.
The clock
You have a few seconds to mark. If you run out, the game marks for you on a free square picked at random — you do not lose the round for taking too long, but chance will probably play worse than you.
Draws
If both players have won the same number of rounds at the end, the match is a draw and the pot is split between them.
