The rules

How a hand goes

Two cards face down for each player and a round of betting. Then three community cards are turned over (the flop) and another round; a fourth (the turn), another; a fifth (the river) and the last one. Whoever is left with the best hand of five — from their two and the five on the table — takes the pot.

The blinds

Before anybody sees anything, the two players to the left of the dealer put in the small and the big blind. That is what makes there be something to win in every hand. The dealer button rotates, so everybody pays the blinds in turn.

What you can do

If nobody has bet: check or bet. If somebody has bet: fold, call or raise. Raising has a minimum — at least as much as the last raise. And you can always go all in, even if it is less than what you have to call.

Going all in and side pots

If you go all in with fewer chips than the others, you can only win up to what you put in multiplied by the people who called you. The rest is a separate pot contested by those who kept betting.

The chips and your coins

You come in with the chips the table says and leave with whatever you have left. What you paid to get in is what you are risking: the table cannot charge you more than that, and it cannot pay out more than it collected between everybody.
