Crazy Eights

You are dealt seven cards and the aim is to have none left. You play a card matching the colour or the number of the one on top of the pile, and the special cards make life hard for whoever is next.

The rules

How to play a card

On your turn you play a card matching the colour or the number of the one on top of the pile. If you have none, you draw one: if it works you can play it, and if not, you pass. Wild cards can always be played and you choose the colour that follows.

The special cards

Skip: the next player loses their turn. Reverse: the round starts going the other way, and at a table of two it works as a skip. +2: the next player draws two and loses their turn. Wild: you pick the colour. Wild +4: you pick the colour and the next player draws four.

Stacking penalties

With the option on, if somebody plays a +2 at you, you can answer with another +2 and the penalty passes on, added up. The +4s stack among themselves, but a +2 and a +4 do not mix: they are two different penalties and joining them makes how much gets drawn unpredictable.

Calling “eight!”

When you are down to a single card you have a few seconds to call it. If you do not make it, you draw two and your lead is gone. It can be turned off in the table's settings.

Points

The round ends when somebody runs out of cards, and that person scores whatever everybody else still holds: numbers are worth their number, specials twenty and wilds fifty. Whoever collected most points at the end of the rounds wins the match.

The clock

If you run out of time, the game plays for you: it plays a valid card at random or draws. Three turns in a row without playing and you are out of the match.
